چکیده
This paper presents a simulation methodology for performance assessment of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems using directly modulated quantum-well lasers and optically preamplified direct detection receivers. The methodology is based on a pure semi-analytical method which combines noiseless WDM transmission simulation with noise analysis in those systems. Using this approach, we discuss performance implications of single-cavity, double-cavity and threemirror Fabry-Perot (FP) demultiplexers for dispersion supported transmission (DST) of three WDM channels separated 1 nm. Assuming that a three-mirror filter is used as demultiplexer, the performance of a 40 Gbit/s capacity four-channel WDM-DST system is assessed for 0.5 nm channel spacing. The robustness of the multichannel DST method against pattern dependencies is also investigated for this channel spacing.

The ever-increasing demand for applications in internet, digital cable TV, e-mail, data transmission etc. has forced the utilization of the available more than two THz transmission bandwidth of single-mode optical fiber at low loss and low dispersion window of 1550 nm. Most of the optical communication systems in use today range from 2.5 Gbit/s, 10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s while 160 Gbit/s and 480 ...
متن کاملPre- and Post-Dispersion Compensation in Long-Haul WDM Transmission System
In long-haul wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) transmission systems, signals with shorter and longer wavelengths have self-phase modulation group-velocitydispersion (SPM-GVD) penalty caused by to the dispersion slope even after the dispersion-compensation at the receiver has been optimized. As a countermeasure, we have already proposed both pre-compensation and post-compensation of chromati...
متن کاملSuppression of Four Wave Mixing Based on the Pairing Combinations of Differently Linear-Polarized Optical Signals in WDM System
Data transmission in optical systems and increased transmission distance capacity benefit by using optical amplification wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology. The combination of four waves (FWM) is a non-linear effect in the wavelength division multiplex (WDM), when more than two wavelengths of light in a fiber launch will occur. FWM amount depends on the channel, the channel spaci...
